The hardtail San Dimas trades the Floyd for a string-through Charvel HT6 bridge, which makes it a simpler guitar to live with and a good one for dropped tunings. Pickups are a Seymour Duncan JB Trembucker in the bridge and two Custom Flat Strat single coils, all screwed straight into the body with no pickguard, and the five-way switch splits the humbucker in positions two and three. It ships with locking tuners and a TUSQ XL nut. This maple-board version has an alder body; the ebony-board version is a different guitar with a sassafras body and a plain plastic nut, so check which one you have.

Seymour Duncan JB Trembucker TB-4 (Black)

    Likely drop-in
    Soldering

The same bridge pickup this guitar ships with, in black rather than the stock parchment. Fits the existing direct-mount route. You will need to solder it in.

    Why we say this

Charvel list a direct-mount Seymour Duncan JB TB-4 in the bridge of the Pro-Mod San Dimas Style 1 HSS HT M (2965063576), so this is the same pickup model the guitar ships with. Charvel fit it in parchment on this model; this record is the black version, which only changes the look. Duncan make Trembuckers with 52.6mm pole spacing on slightly larger bobbins and baseplate than a standard humbucker, so a like-for-like Trembucker is the safe choice for this route. Reuse the existing mounting screws and springs. Four-conductor cable, so the coil split positions on the five-way switch keep working.

Gotoh SG381-07 MG-T Locking Tuners, 6-in-line (Cosmo Black)

    Likely drop-in

A locking set for the 10mm holes modern locking tuners like this guitar's normally use, though you may need one small screw hole per tuner. Check yours first.

    Why we say this

Charvel list Charvel-branded die-cast locking tuners on the Pro-Mod San Dimas Style 1 HSS HT M but don't publish the hole size. Modern sealed and locking tuners like these normally sit in 10mm holes. Gotoh's SG381-07 MG-T locking set (SG381-07 MGT L6 CB) is sold for 10mm holes, and each tuner is fixed with one screw set at 45 degrees to the post, so if your tuners use guide pins or a screw in a different spot you may need to drill one small pilot hole per tuner. The stock tuners already lock, so this is a quality and feel upgrade rather than a new feature. Take one tuner off and check the hole and where the screw or pins sit before ordering.

Graph Tech Ratio Machine Heads (6-in-line, Staggered)

    Likely drop-in

Should fit the 10mm holes modern locking tuners like this guitar's normally use, with plates included for screw-mount holes. The posts are staggered, so check your holes first.

    Why we say this

Charvel list Charvel-branded die-cast locking tuners on the Pro-Mod San Dimas Style 1 HSS HT M but don't publish the hole size. Modern sealed and locking tuners like these normally sit in 10mm holes. Graph Tech make this set (PRL-9721-C0) for 13/32 inch (10mm) holes, with a two-pin casing and InvisoMatch plates included to use the screw holes left by common factory tuners. Graph Tech stagger the post heights so a flat headstock doesn't need a string tree. Take one tuner off and check the hole and where the screw or pins sit before ordering.
