Description
The Seymour Duncan SSL-1 set is a vintage-style single-coil pickup set designed to recreate the bright, articulate tones of early Fender Stratocasters from the 1950s and early ’60s. With staggered Alnico 5 magnets and formvar wire, these pickups deliver a glassy high end, scooped mids, and clear, percussive lows—ideal for classic Strat tones in surf, blues, country, and vintage rock.
Each pickup is hand-built with a period-correct design, including vintage-style cloth push-back wire. The middle pickup is RWRP (reverse wound, reverse polarity), which allows for hum-canceling in positions 2 and 4 of a 5-way switch—making them more usable in live or higher-volume settings compared to true vintage sets.

️ Installation Notes
The SSL-1 set fits most Stratocaster-style guitars with standard single-coil routing and pickguard mounts. They use traditional height-adjustable screws and include cloth push-back leads, so soldering is required.
While designed to work with 250k pots for a vintage-correct tone balance, players seeking slightly more output or warmth may choose 300k or even 500k in modern setups.
Ideal for players chasing traditional Strat tone without modern voicing or added output, the SSL-1 delivers classic sparkle and character while remaining stage-friendly thanks to the hum-canceling middle pickup.
Benefits
- Enhanced vintage tone
- Higher output than stock pickups
- Improved clarity and definition
- Hand-calibrated Alnico 5 rod magnets
